Congratulations to all my colleague at The Globe and Mail as we lead the pack of finalists with 13 nominations in the running for the 2008 National Newspaper Awards to be announced May 22 in Montreal. Other nominates in my category for Feature Photography are Ian Martens, Lethbridge Herald, for a shot of a full moon as a backdrop for a wedding photograph being taken by another photographer; Steve Russell, Toronto Star, for a photo of the reflection caused by balloons after a rainstorm during Toronto’s Luminato Festival.

With my brain still numb from holiday bliss it was back to work today after two weeks off. I was hoping I had missed out on most of the weather related stories but of the course the night before going back to work we had yet another dumping of snow.

So I sent the day trying to figure out the best slideshow program for WordPress with many failed attempts. I think I’ve finally settled on Shadowbox JS. The WordPress plugin is not prefect but it does the job nicely. I figured since I went to all this trouble I might as well put a slideshow together. These are a few of the images from the past year I’m think of entering in the National News Paper Awards. -JJL  ***Now it seems not to be working*** Update: got it working. seem to have a conflict between two plugins.

Today’s Globe BC front which I took over with photos from the past year.

So I’ve had my grubby little hands a Canon 5D mark II for the past two weeks and have shot a number of still assignments and have now just completed a multimedia piece with the little beauty. I must say I couldn’t be more thrilled with the camera. Is it perfect? no, but the camera’s short comings are greatly out weighted by what it can do.

A few facts about the video.

The interview or “A roll” was shot with the Canon AH X1
The rest of the video or “B roll” I used the 5D
I spent four hours shooting the video and about day and a half editing
The still images were shot with a 1D Mark III and the 5D II
